Initiative for Social Cohesion
The overall objective is to is to address social issues that affect the daily lives of citizens of South Eastern Europe through regional approaches in the field of health, social protection, employment policy and vocational training, social dialogue and housing.

Social cohesion and development are essential contributing factors to lasting political and social stability, as well as economic development in the SEE countries. High unemployment, low living standards and poor social infrastructure are common in many of these countries and can contribute to social and political instability. Building on existing activities by governments and international organizations in the social field, the Initiative for Social Cohesion aims to better incorporate the social dimension ineconomic development and reconstruction efforts in the region while respecting the principle of financial sustainability. Reforms in the social sector are an essential condition for the success of the region's integration in European and international structures. It also attempts to harness different approaches by countries and international organizations by addressing these social issues within an overall regional approach. In addition to furthering regional cooperation, the Initiative also builds on best European practice , thus facilitating the integration of the countries of South East Europe into the European Union and transatlantic structures.
