Non-Tarif Barriers

  Link to Trade Main Page

“While CEFTA 2006 is an excellent agreement, the region must also continue its fight to abolish non-tariff barriers, attract investment and eliminate corruption. Otherwise this excellent agreement will only be a lost opportunity.” Special Co-ordinator Erhard Busek, speaking at the signing of CEFTA 2006 on 19 December 2006 in Bucharest

The Trade Working Group has always recognised that tariff reductions must be accompanied by the identification, reduction and elimination of non-tariff barriers to trade if substantial increases in trade and investment were to be secured.

Since 2001, the Group has conducted a number of studies on the range of NTBs in the region and has agreed on a common approach to identifying and monitoring their elimination.
