13-14 December 2006: Background information about the Western Balkans COSAP

The Conference of the European Integration Parliamentary Committees of States participating to the Stabilisation of Association Process (Western Balkans COSAP) has been established in June 2005 as a tool to promote fundamental internal reforms through the common pursuit of EU integration.

The Conference has a rotating Chairmanship and meets regularly to discuss issues related to the Stabilisation and Association Process. Apart from the meeting held in Skopje on 13-14 December 2006, the Western Balkans COSAP met previously in Sarajevo and in Zagreb.

The first meeting, held on 16-18 June 2005, marked the establishment of the Conference itself, while the latter, held on 5-6 March 2006, focussed on the role and functioning of this regional forum and on the cooperation between the SAP National Parliaments and the European Parliament through the activities of the joint Parliamentary committees.

The Western Balkans COSAP participated also as a Special Guest to the meetings of the Conference of Community and European Affairs Committee of the Parliaments of the EU (COSAC).
