CURRICULUM VITAE

Fabrizio Saccomanni is Vice President and Member of the Executive Committee of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.  His main areas of responsibility are: Project Evaluation, Official Co-financing Operations, Nuclear Safety Projects and Environmental Protection.  He serves also as Chairman of the Working Table on Economic Reconstruction, Cooperation and Development of the Stability Pact for  South Eastern Europe.

Prior to joining the EBRD, he was Director for International Affairs at the Banca d’Italia.  During a career of 35 years, including a five year secondment to the International Monetary Fund in Washington, he has served as Head of International Research and later as Head of the Foreign Department in charge of foreign exchange operations and official reserves management.  In this latter capacity he has chaired the Foreign Exchange Policy Committee of the European Monetary Institute (1991-98).  He has also represented Banca d’Italia in several international committees at the European Union (Economic and Financial Committee), at the European Central Bank (International Relations Committee) at the Bank for International Settlements (Committee on the Global Financial System), and in the context of the Group of Seven (G-7).

Mr Saccomanni holds a master’s degree in economics and business administration from Bocconi University in Milan, and did postgraduate studies in international and monetary economics at Princeton University.

Author of numerous articles on international monetary problems, he has recently published a book on crisis management in the global financial system entitled “Tigri globali, domatori nazionali” (Global Tigers, National Tamers), Il Mulino (2002).
