Brussels / Skopje - The Parliament of The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia adopted the Law on Broadcasting Activity this week (9 November). This law has been initiated by the Stability Pact's Media Task Force.
The broadcast law, which aligns the media legislation in the country with the European standards, will assist the transformation of the public broadcaster and ensure fair regulation of the broadcast landscape by an independent regulatory body.
Reacting to the news, Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Erhard Busek said: "This is an important achievement. The Stability Pact, and especially its Media Task Force, is proud that it had supported this initiative since the very beginning. This law presents not only an important contribution to the transformation of the public broadcasting service but should be seen also as a further step towards strengthening democracy in the country".
