Organized crime in South Eastern Europe needs a regional response. SEE countries frequently face major problems exchanging operational information on criminals who operate throughout the region. The current chair of South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the Stability Pact Initiative to Fight Organized Crime (SPOC) are jointly organizing a Conference of the Ministers of Interior from SEE on the practical follow up to the “London Statement on Defeating Organized Crime” (25 November 2002), on 18 – 19 June 2003 in Sarajevo.
The Conference focuses on two major topics:
¬ Efficient data protection
¬ Witness protection
On the first day, Ministers of Interior or Public order from SEE will sign a Declaration to that end. On the second day, legal experts from the Ministries of Interior discuss the two priorities (protection/processing of data and witness protection) with representatives from the EU and other relevant international organizations.
