Special Co-ordinator Hombach welcomes extradition of Mr Milosevic

Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact issued the following statement:

"The decision by the Serbian Government to extradite Slobodan Milosevic to the International Tribunal in The Hague is first of all in the interest of the Yugoslav people. This decision breaks with a past that isolated the country and set it back in economic and moral terms. A new chapter has now been opened. It proves the trust we put in the Government of Mr Djindjic was worthwhile. I now appeal to the International Community to support Yugoslavia quickly and substantially, so that all segments of the Yugoslav society will be convinced that this step has been the right one."
