Special Co-ordinator Hombach to enlarge

Together with Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi Stability Pact Special Co-ordinator Bodo Hombach will open the fourth conference of the Szeged Process in the South Hungarian city of the same name on March 23. The Szeged Process was initiated to support cites in Serbia and Montenegro, which were governed by the then opposition parties. With the democratic changes in Yugoslavia, this before limited support should now be transformed into a regional initiative for crossborder regional co-operation and city-partnerships. The instruments, which the Stability Pact and the hosting Hungarian Government intent to apply are modelled after the twin-city concept and the Euroregions program, which have been successfully implemented elsewhere in Europe. The conference will address the issue of a deepened co-operation between cities and regions from various angles, including the role of small businesses, good governance, human resources as well as drawing from experiences made with such partnerships elsewhere in Europe.
