President Traykovski and Bodo Hombach met in Brussels today at the Special Co-ordinator’s offices. They will be dining together in Brussels tonight
The Stability Pact Economic Working Table to be held in Skopje on 10-11 February was a main focus of discussion. Both sides agreed that it was a key event on the path to the Regional Financing Conference to be held in Brussels on 29 – 30 March. The political groundwork had been laid, now we had the task of turning billions of euros worth of projects into concrete reality. The importance of mobilising the private sector was emphasised. It was agreed that, to help achieve that, early implementation of the Stability Pact sponsored Investment Compact would be essential
Specific projects of direct interest to the Macedonian side were discussed, with a view to early implementation
A key factor for the success of the Pact was that parallel progress should be made simultaneously on all three Working Tables (human rights/democratisation, security questions, economic, reconstruction/ development
The President and Special Co-ordinator agreed to keep in close personal touch in their joint efforts to promote the objectives and implementation of the Stability Pact.
