eSEE Ministerial Conference on Information Society

The South Eastern Europe Ministerial Conference on Information Society Development and the 3rd Information Society Conference were held in Sarajevo, on 29 and 30 October, under the umbrella of Stability Pact and in close cooperation with Ministry of Communication and Transport of BiH, UNDP BiH and European Commission Delegation in Sarajevo. The Conference built upon the common wish of the countries of the region to jointly employ information and communication technologies as tools for economic growth, job creation, EU integration, and to underpin long-term stability in the region.

Ministers of Telecommunication or of Information Society from the Parties in the Stability Pact’s electronic South East Europe (eSEE) initiative  – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Romania and UNMIK/Kosovo highlighted the clear progress being made on the national level with regard to the development of the information society and also stressed the benefits of regional co-operation in this field.

The eSEE Initiative participants adopted new regional action plan: “eSEE Agenda Plus for the Development of Information Society in SEE 2007- 2012” which lays out the region’s common goals for the future with respect to the Information Society.

Croatia took over the Chairmanship of the eSEE Initiative.

The 3rd Information Society Conference on 30 October focused on eGovernance development – the mechanism of utilizing information technologies for advancing functionality and responsibility of the government structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Organised by the BiH Government
