WT2 Infrastructure Task Force Document
Constanta Road Construction - Press Statements

Press Statements

Romanian Prime - Minister, dr. Adrian Nastase

"It makes me a special pleasure to be here today, with my colleagues, with Minister Miron Mitrea, for the evaluation of the project Bucharest - Constanta highway. Also, it is an honor to have Dr. Busek, the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, together with us. He has supported this important project since the beginning of his mandate.

I want to underline the importance of the infrastructure for Romania and the whole region. This project will facilitate the transport between the central part of the country and the main harbor, Constanta. Also, the main route to Western Europe will be facilitated in this way. This highway is important for the whole region, also. And for the tourism, agriculture, development of housing and all the villages around.

For this reason we should consider this project more attentively. Unfortunately, the project was stopped for a long period because of the financing. Last year, we decided to accelerate the infrastructure projects. We need solutions for complete financing. For this reason, I believe that our partnership with Stability Pact, with Dr. Busek, represents a guarantee that we'll succeed and that our investment efforts in this region will bring prosperity and will serve as an example for development to the whole region."

SP Special Coordinator, dr. Erhard Busek

"I am glad to be here together with the Prime -Minister and the Minister of Transport. I've seen the progress you've made and I'd like to congratulate Romania and the Romanian Government for this. From the Stability Pact's point of view, these concrete results are very important. Being possible to mention the progress made on specific projects will be possible to find more funds. As you know, for the entire region there were allocated 3.6 billion Euros for infrastructure projects. A big part of this money is for railways and highways projects. The Vidin - Calafat Bridge is important, also. If we'll speed up the process, I think we'll find funding easier. Now, I can report that things go in the right way and I'll try to bring more funds in, because when you start something important as this highway, the project must be well ended."
